As it came down to planning and executing, we were expected to redevelop this parcel to complement the community, with a highlight on the livability, beauty and neighborhood context. On the unoccupied .895-acre parcel of land, we were able to propose six cottages, a new rear lane and a small pocket park.
The cottages are comprised of two core floor plans; a two bedroom and a three bedroom that range from 1000-1300 sqft. These core plans are then each given unique exterior elements and detailing so that each house reads much different from the others. The elements range from multiple porch and stoop options to more classical detailing and formal roof lines. This is a great example of our approach to designing builder / developer architecture than is a great balance of efficient and great design.
These small houses are apart of the unique opportunity to growing housing in Beaufort while also advancing the Civic or Public Realm. The goal achieved was to create a residential development of high quality design with the neighborhood scale, using local architectural DNA which made the architecture complementary to the city. The design principles of these small houses, make it unique and the perfect expression of the southern small-town lifestyle.
